Former Supreme Court judge justice Prof George William kanyeihamba has advised political parties in the country not to use their caucuses to stop their members from expressing their views in parliament.
Speaking to the mps during their induction seminar in Kampala Kanyeihamba said that caucus are the best avenues for party members to reach consensus on some issues but they should not be used to broke members from speaking out their views on the floor of parliament.
He says that the only way for the people to appreciate their MPs is by listening to their presentations on the floor but not in caucuses which are always held in secrecy.
He says that that those descending to party positions should be allowed and given opportunity to speak on the floor of parliament because they represent the people not the party.
Kanyeihamba also advised government not to look at the opposition as the enemies of the state but as alternative leaders.
He says that the factor that they differ on ideologies does not mean that they desist to be Ugandans and therefore their view should be considered and taken seriously since they are also representatives of the people.
He said that both the opposition and the ruling party should keep working together for the development of the country.
