Both Kenya and Uganda have over the last three years clashed over the ownership of the island. Mugume is however optimistic that the meeting being held in Nairobi will come up with lasting resolutions.

In May Kenya’s land’s minister James Orango accused the Ugandan government of setting up a police post on the island.

Orange told the local media that Uganda was moving people to the disputed island to justify its territory claims.

Last week Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki told a rally in western Kenya that the disputed island belongs to Kenya.
