Lorry Drivers question UNRA weighing bridges

Regional lorry drivers and transporters association have petitioned parliament against the traffic and road safety weighbridges regulations 2010.

The Regional Lorry Drivers and Transporters Association chairman Byron Kinene handed over the petition to the deputy speaker Jacob Oulanya .

According to the chairperson of the body Byron Kinene the regulations the people found carrying access weight one is taken to courts of instead of being penalized immediately as the case in the traffic regulations.

 

He also says that the system is marred with corruption and undue delays which should be stopped immediately.

Kinene called upon parliament to introduce instant penalty to avoid corruption involved in the payment process. He also says that UNRA should be given full powers as it is the case with Uganda revenue authority.

Kinene said that Uganda National Roads Authority should be given powers to hand weigh bridge standard instead of Uganda National Bureau of standards

The deputy speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanya said that the petitioners have genuine issues and therefore parliament will handle their complaints. He says that the petitioners will be invited to the committee and therefore they should be ready.
