Makerere University Don Prof Yasin Olum has warned parliamentarians against focusing on issues that benefit the president, party and their personal interests instead of focusing on issues that help the citizens.
Addressing mps at a post election seminar for members of the 9th parliament Olum said that for the parliament to have a meaning in the country it must be giving citizen issues the first priority.
He also noted that the major function of parliament is ensuring that service delivery takes place so that all citizens benefit and once its neglected parliament loses its image.
He says that the public has been accusing parliament for sidelining with the ruling party and party president instead of sidelining with the people who elected them.
He called upon mps to fight and make sure that the image of parliament is regained as it starts considering the people’s requests first.
