The High court has ordered the Attorney General to establish the whereabouts of one Dr Aggrey Byamukama and produce him in court by Tuesday noon.
Justice Eldard Mwangutsya wants the Attorney general to explain reasons for the detention of Byamukama and then proceed to hear a suit challenging the alleged illegal detention of Byamukama.
This was after Susan Adong who represented the respondents in this matter told court that the Director of CMI said he has no knowledge of the presence of Byamukama.
She asked court for more time to get instructions from the IGP and the CID about the matter.
However Julius Ndyomugabe, who represented Byamukama informed court that he has all information that the applicant is detained at RRU in Kireka.
Last week, Dr Byamukama through his wife Doreen Byamukama sued the Chief of Defense Forces UPDF, the director of CMI, the IGP, Director CID and the Attorney General seeking for court orders to compel them produce him before court or release him unconditionally.
In the suit, she contends that Byamukama was arrested on the 16th of this month at Mbarara by UPDF officials and is to date detained at an unknown military cell without producing him before court to answer any charges preferred against him.
She contends that this continued illegal detention violates the constitutional rights and has also subjected Byamukama’s family to psychological suffering since he is the sole bread winner for the family.
Dr Byamukama was arrested in connection with the death of Col. Edson Muzoora.
