The number of ministers is expected to increase to another level if president Museveni finally agrees to create another independent ministry for labor.
According to vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, the two big men are supposed to meet soon on the possibility of creating a fully fledged ministry for labor, a matter that will see the number of cabinet ministers’ surging from the current 76 to another level.
This impending meeting comes at a time when even the youths are agitating for a fully fledged ministry for youths as opposed to the current state ministerial ministry headed by 27- year-old Ronald Kibuule.
Officiating at a mega victory party organized by two workers’ MPs Charles Bakabulindi and Teopista Ssentongo at Lugogo over the weekend, Ssekandi said that the creation of this ministry has remained on paper for some time.
He says Workers all over the world and Uganda in particular are the engine for development, adding that government recognizes workers as an engine for our development.
He also promised to talk to the responsible ministry and the president about the possibility of creation of industrial/labor courts so that these are put in place, which workers are vital; to deal with labor relations since the local courts deal with criminals.
Ssekandi however, challenged workers to always work hard to impress their bosses, saying such hard work would earn them recognition and promotion at their work place.
Meanwhile, workers MP who is also state minister for sports Charles Bakabulindi together with Ssentogo, pledged to continue fighting for workers’ rights in parliament.
