The Uganda land Alliance has decried the continued practice of women and girls being denied the right to inherit land from their parents and spouses.
The communication officer of the Uganda Land Alliance Deo Tumusiime says women in Uganda still need to be supported to realise equal and equitable land rights and services.
He says that Land inheritance in many cultures is a preserve of the boy child, while the girls and women are only allowed user rights.
Tumusiime says even the few women who have chance to inherit land from either their parents or husbands, later see it grabbed from them by close relatives or in some instances by outsiders.
He adds that majority of the rural women are very poor and have no capacity for legal representation and this puts them at a huge disadvantage when they face land related court cases.
