The ministry for agriculture has reported 110.24 billion shillings in earnings from the cotton sub-sector as one of the achievements realized in the 2010/2011 financial year.
According to a statement from the ministry for agriculture, the ministry distributed 3700 metric tonnes of cotton planting seed and 376546 one-acre units of pesticides to 170000 farm families in 56 cotton growing districts.
It says that out that investment, 130000 bales of cotton were harvested, resulting into a shs110.24bn earnings to the country.
The ministry says in the livestock sub-sector, a total of 11million kilogram of animal products, 2800 Friesian cattle and 580 Boer goats were inspected, certified and exported.
As for the crop sub-sector, research into 10 crop varieties for serenut, ground nuts, maize, beans, banana and sweat potato were released and submitted to the variety release committee for consideration.
