As Uganda marks the world’s population day, experts have advised that there is need to revive the idea of granaries to store more food for the ever increasing population and an avoidable calamity like drought, landslides, floods etc.
The total population of Uganda is currently estimated at 33 million people and is said to be growing at a faster rate over a million each year.
This fast growing population is estimated to double in 20 years time to come and if not checked by government interns of policies and planning this could be a big burden.
Edith Kangobe, the acting head policy and planning department in the population secretariat says by re-introducing national ware house for food, this will not only reduce the ever increasing food price but also fighting hunger in the country.
Kangobe further emphasized that if government does not plan for this increasing population together with other stakeholders this could result into a big burden in future.
