An inmate who has been facing charges of assault at Bukwenge police post has committed suicide inside the police cells.

Godfrey Kyetema a resident of Busambu village in Nabuiguru sub-county was found dead this morning the Tuesday 12th July 2011.

The officer in-charge Bukwenge police post Phillip Okwere says Kyetema hanged himself using his shirt. He explained that Kyetema was arrested following her sister reporting him for assaulting her as a result of a domestic quarrel.

Okwere says they have started investigation into the circumstance under which the deceased could have committed suicide saying it could have been planned.

He says the police has transferred Kwetema’s dead body to Kamuli hospital for post-mortem and police has already notified the relatives of the deceased to prepare for his burial.
