A strange sexually transmitted disease has hit fishermen on Yube Island in Namayengo district. The disease presents its self with inching in the private parts, red eyes, fever and hair falling off, ten (10) days from exposure to the disease.
Over 100 fishermen are conformed to have contracted the disease within the past two weeks alone. Most of the affected fishermen are administer at Yube health centre II in critical conditions.
A health assistant at Yube Health centre II Geoffrey Omongine says ten fisher men were rushed to a private clinic at Maninga Island for better management of the infection.
Omongine is appealing to the fisher men to stick to one sexual partner, practice abstinence or engage in protected sex to avoid infection.
The LCI chairperson of Ibe village Peter Rosse says the suspected fishermen could have contracted the disease from Rwandan or Tanzanian prostitutes from neighboring Sumba Island in western Uganda.
