Police dragged to IGG over fraud in auctioning police exhibits

Residents of Arua town have petitioned the inspectorate of government and office of the resident district commission over the alleged corruption that meld the Auctioning of the police exhibits.

Last week police in Arua announced the sell by auction some of the unclaimed exhibits to members of the public. The item included 16 bicycles, 14 motorcycles 4 cars and household items.
The residents claim that the day for auctioning the said items was repeatedly postponed under unclear circumstances. They claim that when they finally turned up to Arua police station where the Auctioning was meant to take place, they found out all the property had been taken.
Joseph Angwilita west Nile police spokesperson says the Auctioning was conducted within the law. According to him if anybody arrived late and found everything already sold it doesn’t mean that there was fraud play.

The Arua resident district commission Ibrahim Abiringa says in his investigation he conducted sawed fraud play. He however says that he had handed over the matter to the IGG for further investigations into the allegedly auctioning fraud.
This is not the first time the police in Arua have landed into such auctioning scandal with residents over auctioning of unclaimed properties.

In 2009 a similar auctioning exercised sparked off chaos as police officers selected all items in good condition and kept them in their houses but they were later recovered from them when residents mounted search into police houses in Arua barracks.
