The Parliament of Uganda says that it is waiting the directive of the Auditor General to cause MPs who got NAADS monitoring 20 million shillings each to account for the money which some had seen as a bribe to MPs by government.
The parliament’s Public Relations officer Helen Kawesa said that parliament has no mandate to demand accountability from mps when it is not asked by the accounting government bodies.
The MPS of the 8th parliament were given 6.5 billion shillings from government on January 15 2011to monitor government programmes and the money was accepted by most of the ruling party and opposition MPS.
Only about 15 opposition MPs returned the money thinking that it was a bribe from government.
