Deadline approaching for TWAS-AAS-Microsoft 2011 Award for Young Computer Scientists in Africa

TWAS is currently seeking nominations of young scientists in Africa whose research in computer science promises to have a positive impact in the developing world.

Each year, three winners are selected from different countries on the continent. Each recipient receives a Euro 7,000 cash award generously contributed by Microsoft Research, of which EUR 2,000 may be spent at the recipient’s discretion and EUR 5,000 shall be earmarked for furtherresearch.

Nominees can be any nationality, but must have been resident and working in Africa for at least the two years immediately prior to their nomination. Example: For the 2011 nomination, nominees should have been resident in Africa since at least 1 August 2009. Nominees must also have received their most recent degree (Master’s or PhD) within the previous ten years. Self-nomination or nomination by selection committee members is not accepted. Nominations of young women computer scientists are
particularly encouraged.

The deadline is 31 July, however we may consider extending it by 2 weeks
if necessary.
