Hepatitis B disease locally known as Enkaka has been reported being on increase in Uganda and has hit more in Karamoja and northern Uganda.
This was revealed by the Makerere University College of Science Haematologist, Dr. Ocama Ponsiano at a breakfast meeting for members of parliament at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
He said that in Uganda more than 3 million people are living with chronic Hepatitis B infection and the highest is recorded in Karamoja, West Nile , north east and northern Uganda.
He said that for every 10 people, one has hepatitis and he urged the government to strategize people on how this disease can be avoided and to give the medical support to those infected.
Hepatitis B has no cure but it can live in the human body for a long time like HIV/AIDS.
