The chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum for Food Security, Population and Development, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has said  the forum is to engage government to have the country’s priorities set and implemented.

Speaking to journalists in Kampala, Baryomunsi expressed concern that during the budget process, resources are allocated without considering the needs of the people.

He says they want to see that resources are allocated to critical areas which cater for wellbeing of the population.

Baryomunsi also says that the forum will focus on examining the existing laws such that they can come out with laws that match the current situation.

He has however asked the MPs in the forum to monitor the utilization of resources appropriated by parliament.

Meanwhile, Baryomunsi calls on government to mobilize the population for more food production in order to reduce on the current food crisis.

He explains that currently the population growth is too high compared to food production and therefore this needs immediate intervention.

Baryomunsi has urged the government to introduce agricultural mechanization, high yielding planting materials and coming up with nutrition and food security policy
