The chancellor Mountains of the Moon University in Kabarole district Professor Edward Rugumayo is calling upon government to introduce new agriculture technologies to enable the farmers realize an agricultural revolution to spear head industrialization.
Prof Rugumayo says that the manual hoe and a panga used by many Uganda farmers may not create a bigger impact in the agricultural sector since much of the food such technologies produce is for home consumption.
He says that the modernized farming practices such as irrigation, the use organic manures and fertilizers, large and small tractors will help farmers to carry out continuous farming despite the change in weather seasons.
Uganda’s agricultural production increase stands at 0.9% annually compared to 3.2% population increase per year an issue the professor says has contributed to poverty and inflation being currently experienced.
