The National Agriculture Research organization (NARO) has asked parliament to assist it in eviction of land encroachers on the organization’s land in the country.
Appearing before the Agriculture, Animal industry and fisheries committee the Acting Director NARO Emilly Twinamasiko said that most of NARO land in mbarara , Mayuge , sironko , kitgum and kawanda is being encroached on .
She said that with increased urbanization, all NARO institutes in urban areas are threatened by encroachers and land grabbers.
Twinamasiko told the committee that NARO 40 acres of land in mbarara was grabbed and fenced by one captain Bashaija .
She put the blame of grabbing the NARO on the land commission which she pinned for having allocated the organization land to private developers without consulting NARO.
Twinamasiko asked members of parliament on Agriculture committee to prevail over the Uganda land commission to register all land under the jurisdiction of NARO in the names of the organization.
She warned the land commission to desist from using its custodial responsibility of all public land to allocate it to private developers.
The member of parliament for kakuto county in Rakai district Mathias Kasamba said that NARO should give all the names of persons grabbing the organization land so that are summoned to explain how they got this land.
