The Rotary club of Stord in partnership with Toro Child Care Center (TCC) in Norway has today donated various items to Toro Babies Home worth 17.7 million shillings.
The Kabarole district Rotary club President Denis Mugarra said that under their theme “Look within you to embrace humanity” the donation was part of Rotary club’s social responsibility and will to support the needy and provide for the orphans.
The items included mattresses, bed sheets, shoes, mosquito nets, bicycles, gas slider, sweaters, and nappies among others. The Rotary club also donated wheels chairs for the disabled children in the home.
Mugarra however decried the ever increasing tendencies of corruption in Non-Government Organizations and other institutions saying that the vice has majorly affected the intended beneficiaries of government and civil society programs.
The former minister of Trade and Industry Prof Edward Rugumayo noted that all children have equal rights despite their background and called on Ugandans to give a helping hand to the needy and support orphanage homes.
Robert Asiimwe, the team leader TCC disclosed that the babies’ home has acquired 7.5 acres of land in Kasisi village Rutete sub-county to cater for children who are above five years of age and are not supposed to stay in babies home.
Christine Mugasa the in charge of the babies’ home said that they are building a 45 unit house in Kagote in west division Fort Portal to generate income for the babies’ home.
The home which was started by the Rwenzori and Fort Portal dioceses in 1970 has 48 children under its care.
