The government has confirmed that 27 districts in Ugandan are being affected by famine with many families having one meal a day.
The districts include the mountainous district of Bulambuli, Ibanda, Moroto Karamoja, Namutumba, Katakwi, Amuria, the Nakasongolacattle corridor among others.
The state minster for relief and disaster preparedness Musa Ecweru tells reporters that a food assessment conducted across the country reveals that people in these districts are at the risk of starvation if food aid is not given to them.
Ecweru however attributes the looming acute hunger in some of these parts to poor harvests for the last two seasons and the sale of food in the neighboring countries
The minister is however assuring the public that the government is doing all possible to contain the situation.
