High Court in Kampala has convicted city businessman, Thomas Nkuringira also known as Tonku to death by hanging over the murder of his girl friend, Brenda Karamuzi.
Karamuzi was killed in Bukasa village in January last year and her body dumped in a septic tank.
High court judge Albert Rugadya Atwooki ruled that the Prosecution had proved that the deceased was killed in Tonku’s house and the body found in a septic tank at his home.
Justice Rugadya also relied on evidence given by a girlfriend to Tonku’s shamba boy, who testified that she found him washing blood socked clothes.
The judge further questioned why Tonku did not participate in the search for his girl friend after she was reported missing, a matter he said raised suspicion.
Justice Rugadya ruled that the brutality with which Brenda’s life was ended calls for the greatest punishment, adding that only God has the powers to determine when one’s life ends.
Tonku’s shamba boy Fred Sempijja has also been convicted on being an accomplice to the murder and sentenced to 5years in jail.
The judge observed that even after he found the body and helped his boss dump it in a septic tank, the shamba boy admittedly did not report the matter.
Tonku’s relatives including his mother, father and sisters broke down in tears, looking on helplessly as he was led away by prison officials.
Tonku has maintained that he is innocent and was only framed in the case.
