The Opposition Democratic Party has warned President Museveni to put his hands off Mabira forest or else Government will face more similar events to what happened in 2007. The warning comes in the wake of President Museveni’s plan to push through a proposal to give away Mabira forest to Mehta group for sugarcane growing. The Party’s deputy Secretary General Vincent Mayanja says that Uganda has lost close to 3.2 million acres of forest cover because of a greedy President. Mayanja notes that the recklessness and short sightedness of the President has led to drought which has resulted into food shortages in the country, making Uganda a drought prone country despite its natural endowments. Mayanja urges all Citizens to join them in the fight against the giveaway saying there is no amount of intimidation that will stop them. By Isaac Senabulya
