Ugandan businessman, Patrick Bitature, has been named as Australia’s first Honorary Consul, resident in Kampala, with jurisdiction throughout Uganda.
A large part of Mr Bitature’s role would be to provide consular assistance to the diverse Australian community and to promote Australia’s political and commercial interests in Uganda.
Bitature says he will start with focusing on promoting tourism, Agricultural development and Education.
Australian High Commissioner to Uganda, Geoff Tooth at the opening of the Consulate along Aki Bua road stressed Australia’s commitment to enhancing its engagement with Uganda, as well as the dynamism of the local Australian community.
He says Australia’s already strong relationship with Uganda will be boosted with the opening of the Australian Consulate in Kampala.
Geoff Tooth says the number of Australian companies interested in doing business in Uganda is continuing to grow, particularly in the mining sector, as are the number of Australian tourists.
