The Ministry of Health has revealed that the government is planning to increase salaries for health workers in the next financial year.
The Minister of Health; Dr. Christine Ondoa, told the parliamentary Committee on Social Services that the ministry has submitted its proposals to increase salaries of medical workers effective next financial year.
According to documents presented before the committee, the ministry proposes that fresh medical officers have their salary increased from 830,000 shillings to 1.6 million shillings and Nurses that of enrolled nurses from 390,000 to 600,000 shillings.
MPs applauded the move as a positive step towards revamping the health sector. But the chairman of the committee, Dr. Sam Lyomoki said the salary increments should have been tabled earlier and been effected this financial year.
Dr. Lyomoki says the improvement in emoluments of health workers is long overdue and has been affecting proper delivery of health services.
