A move by government to throw out the controversial Anti Homosexuality bill has been scoffed at by Ndorwa West MP, David Bahati.
At a Cabinet meeting last week, it is reported that NRM party lawyer and Local Government minister, Adolf Mwesige called on Cabinet to drop the bill on grounds that it was unnecessary since government has a number of laws in place criminalizing homosexuality.
However addressing the press today, Bahati insists that the bill was in good faith and he is not ready to give in to pressure to back off the controversial Anti Homosexuality bill.
Bahati, who is the architect of the bill, says Cabinet’s decision will not affect his resolve to promote the bill in Parliament and push for a stringent law that criminalizes homosexuality.
The controversial bill caused uproar, particularly human rights activists and the donor community, with some threatening to withdraw aid to Uganda.
