President Yoweri Museveni has invited members of the anti-Mabira give away crusade for a visit on Sunday. 20 members of the crusade have been invited to his home in Ntungamo district to discuss the fate of Mabira forest.
The invitation comes at a time when President Yoweri Museveni is insisting on giving away part of the forest to Mehta group of companies for sugar cane production despite the opposition from the environmentalists.
The organiser of the save Mabira crusade Frank Murambuzi says the President’s invitation is timely adding that it will give them opportunity to explain the importance of the forest.
The president has been meeting different groups of people including MPs as he continues to lobby for support to have the forest given away.
However, some media reports indicate that the Mehta group has declined to take over Mabira for sugarcane production following increasing misgivings about the move.
