As the country kicks off the energy efficiency week today, the state minister for minerals, Peter Lokeris reveals that the country is facing a shortage of over 120 MW of power supply which has contributed to the current power shortages.
Speaking at the launch of the week in Kampala today, Lokeris attributes the shortage to the global economic crisis which has seen the fuel prices rise making it difficult to generate power by thermo plants.
The government buys electricity from some companies that run thermal plants to boost the national power supply.
But the minister assures that within the next six months, the country will see little of load shedding after the opening of Bujagali power plant which will add 250 MW to the national power supply.
