Scholarship Description: The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management, College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources, University of Hawaii at Manoa, seeks a recent Ph.D. interested in generating climate research-quality satellite data records of global vegetation indices. Develop and evaluate a methodology of relating/coupling satellite data with in situ tower-based measurements of flux and reflectance to validate vegetatation index products from multiple sensors (VIIRS, MODIS, AND AVHRR), including the performance and effectiveness of algorithmic improvements and multi-sensor continuity/compatability, and to establish their biophysical uncertainties. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build research capacities in ecological remote sensing, scaling, and phenology studies. Major challenges will be to efficiently handle a wide vareity of datasets and to develop sound relationships with the external data providers required for the project.
