Members of Parliament have demand an explanation from Government over the Inspector General of Government (IGG)’s action of withdrawing charges against personalities without clear reasons.
Parliament’s concern follow the recent sudden withdraw by the office of the IGG last Friday the case in which Prof. Gilbert Bukenya was accused of abuse of office over the award of a Shs9.4 billion contract to supply executive vehicles for Chogm four years ago, saying it wanted to pave way for the conclusion of a civil suit lodged over the same issue.
MPs including Shadow Attorney General Abdu Katuntu and Sanjay Tanna argue that the sudden withdraw of the case against the former Vice president scares as Individuals holding high offices may be in a similar way blackmailed under unclear circumstances.
Katuntu expressed optimism that the charges against Bukenya by the IGG were mere allegations aimed at black mailing him through some individuals’ influence.
Sanjay who represents Tororo Municipality says government should make a statement to parliament or a commission of inquiry be instituted to investigate the circumstances which forced the IGG to discontinue a case against Bukenya after tarnishing his name.
