Makerere University lecturers under their body, MUASA (Makerere University Academic Staff Association) are planning to stage another strike if the government does not act fast and increase their salaries.
MUASA President, Prof. Tanga Odoi says the government has failed to fulfill the promises made to the lecturers in September 2011 while convincing them to end the August strike.
He says up to now since their meeting with the president, issues of salary change, take over of wage bill by the government, to-up allowances and DAP pension funds held in in the National Insurance Corporation have not be addressed by the government despite the presidential directive that the matters be immediately be solved.
Odoi says they are now giving an ultimatum of two week to the ministry of education to urgently handle their issues before they go on strike again.
The lecturers held massive sit down strike in August that lasted for a month which later attracted the attention of the president but it seems the problems were just postponed instead of solving them.
