Uganda is planning to start police courts to check on the growing rate of domestic violence in Buganda Kingdom and across the country in general.
The courts will handle mostly rape, defilement, murder and attempted murder cases among married persons. The police courts are coming into force soon after Uganda’s president, General Museveni advised the inspector general of police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura to start them.
Museveni promised police courts when he was recently addressing heads of states at the international conference on Great Lakes Region. The meeting took place in Kampala and Museveni asked other African states to start police courts. However other people allege that the government wants to use these courts to torture opposition supporters.
