On 23^rd October prof. Mondo Kagonyera’s four years term as Makerere University Chancellor came to an end. This implies that by now the university council should have a substantive list of candidates to be submitted to the president ofUganda for approval of a suitable chancellor forMakerereUniversity.

But till now the search committee ofMakerereUniversityhas not yet been instituted by the university council to get a substantive chancellor to avoid a situation where the oldest university inUgandais plugged into a leadership vacuum.

The chairperson ofMakerereUniversityconcerned students association, Winston Nsibirwa when contacted for a comment requested the university council to stop their usual carelessness and institute a search committee that will avail a new university chancellor-because the chancellor is supposed to preside over the fourth coming graduation.

 The University and other tertiary institutions act 2003 provides that an acting chancellor can not preside over a graduation.
