We have been told that the commandos leading military aggression against Al Shabaab rebels in Somalia have received modern fighting techniques from the European Union.
A source in Somalia tells us that the Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda Peoples Defence Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, Commander Land forces of Uganda forces, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala, and the Chief of Education and sports, Col. Phinehas Katirima are among the soldiers who have received the training.
President Museveni and the minister of defence, Mr Crispus Kiyonga attended the training last week as observers. Uganda is commanding a total of 17,731 African Union soldiers in Somalia on a piece keeping mission.
One of the commandos who attended the training described it as exciting and real. The commando says it will help them to dislodge the insurgents in Somalia.
