Sections of Ugandans have anticipated the untimely collapse of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) over expulsion of the President of its Youth League, Julius Malema from ANC.

The decision to expel Malema from ANC was announced on Wednesday by Derek Hanekom, the Chairman of the ANC National Disciplinary Committee (NDC). Many Ugandans have argued that Malema’s expulsion from the ANC party might mark the end of ANC from African continent.

Sarah Najjemba, a Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) in Kampala says that the expulsion of Malema means that ANC has lost respect and support from Africans outsideSouth Africa. She says that Malema is the brain child of the relationship ANC youth league enjoys with other African youth organisations like ANC.

James Katabu, a Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) youth activist requested the leadership of ANC to pardon Malema in order to curb the collapse of ANC inSouth Africa.

Malema has 14 days to appeal against the verdict. Malema, was charged with two other ANC leaders of the ANC Youth League. Others were the ANC Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Magaga. Magaga was suspended by the NDC for three years.

The ANC Disciplinary Committee found Magaqa guilty of issuing a derogatory and potentially defamatory statement aboutSouth Africa’s Minister for Public Enterprises, Malusi Gigaba. Another accused ANC official was the ANC Youth League Spokesman Floyd Shivambu. Floyd had his membership suspended for three years.

Shivambu was accused of swearing at a press conference and for issuing a statement onBotswana, which the NDC says contravened the ANC policy.
