It is a double tragedy. After an NRM party MP, Singh Katongole lost a parliamentary election petition for former Lubaga North to the Democratic Party (DP) last week; another NRM MP has again lost an election petition to the Democratic Party in Bukoto South in Masaka district.
The Court of appeal seated at Kampala on Wednesday thrown out the petition of Muyanja Mbabali, former MP for Bukoto South. Muyanja was challenging the judgment of the High Court sitting in Masaka that had nullified his election victory on grounds of lacking the requisite minimum academic qualifications.
The three judges of the court of appeal agreed with DP‘s Matthias Nsubuga that indeed Mbabali didn’t have the required academic credentials by the time of nominations, thereby ordering fresh elections in Bukoto South Constituency.
In the same spirit, Lubaga North Member of parliament, Moses Kasibante has today been sworn in as a validly elected member of parliament! What a great day for opposition in Uganda.
