Ugandans living with HIV/Aids, especially those living in islands are forced to share ARVs drugs due to shortage of the drugs in hospitals.

The people in islands told our informers that they experience insufficient supply of ARVs and sometimes they go without ARVs for days. The problem is worse in the following islands on Lake Victoria: Kachanga, Kaziru, Buyigi, Bubembe and Bukasa.

Poor supply of ARVs poses a danger to the health of Ugandans living with HIV/AIDS as absence of ARVs makes their medication ineffective. So this absence makes them to share ARVs as they wait for more supply. Almost all health centres in Uganda are overwhelmed by the big number of HIV positive people who visit them daily seeking for drugs.

Dr. Deo Settuba, who is in charge of Bukakata health centre confirms that some HIV patients in Uganda share ARVs due to inadequate supply of the drugs.
