It seems women emancipation has entrenched much in Uganda now. The women movement has almost captured all centres of life in Uganda.
With Winnie Byanyima (Wife to Uganda’s opposition main man, col. Kiiza Besigye) in New York, Justice Julia Ssebutinde in the Hague, Margaret Ziiwa in Arusha working as the speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Rebecca Alintuma Kadaga in Kampala serving as the speaker of Uganda parliament, Ingrid Turinawe of FDC on the streets fighting the cruelty of Uganda police, shows that the future of Uganda’s women movement is soon reaching the climax.
The influence of Ugandan women is seen and felt on the International and local scenes. Ugandan women with an independent streak, refusing to tow the line and often driving President Museveni nuts are taking over the leadership of Uganda where the men have gone in retreat either succumbing to bribery, short term gains or failure to mature or begging for president Museveni’s intervention at every opportunity, or run away from the brutal regime.
Sections of Ugandans have even to wonder without the women where would Uganda’s name be in the world.
