How to identify albino (Namagoye) features as your baby or child grows. Albinism is a genetic disorder caused by complete or partial lack of pigment [colour] in the skin, hair and the eyes.
It results from inheriting a recessive [weak] gene from both parents (that is a father and a mother).
Albinism is not infectious and can’t be transmitted through contact or blood transfusion. It affects all people of all ethnic, religion, economic or backgrounds.
The features of albinism include little or no melanin in the eyes, skin and hair and vision problems as a result of low amounts of melanin.
The eyes are usually blue or light brown and sometimes appear red, their skin and hair is very pale and they greatly suffer from sunburn and are very sensitive to bright light due to little or no melanin,
Albinos are affected by a number of health complications e.g. skin cancers, decreased vision in addition to social complications.
