A passport is a travel document which identifies the bearer, as the citizen of the issuing country.Ugandahas four types of passports: official, diplomatic, ordinary and East African passport.

Uganda passports are issued only by the government of Uganda through the directorate of citizenship and migration. The main passport office in Uganda is situated at the ministry of Internal Affairs in Kampala.

According to the laws of Uganda, and to the internal affairs minister, James Baba, altering your passport is a crime and making false declaration to obtain a Uganda passport is also equally a crime.

The Uganda passport services have been decentralized to the 13 regional offices across the country: Jinja, Tororo, Mbale, Mbarara, Fort portal, Masaka, Hoima, Masindi, Mityana, Gulu, Lira, Arua and Mubende.Uganda passports may be renewed at Uganda’s embassies inNew York, Pretoria and London.

The person applying for Uganda passport has to get an endorsement by LC executives, covering letter from employer/school, parents, guardian, and ministry of foreign affairs among others.

S/he also requires getting a photocopy of identification documents eg ID, voters’ card and driving permit. You also need 4 coloured passport size photos taken with a white background, recommender of a good repute, and proof of profession. And the applicant may get the application forms and any other information from the nearest passport office.
