Uganda clinics have started selling a new drug meant to be administered to pregnant mothers. The new drug is called ‘option b+. The drug is used on pregnant mothers in order to replace mother to child HIV transition.
Uganda has replaced the AZT drugs with this new Option B+ drugs. The new drug has been approved by the World Health Organisation. The new drug if taken well can reduce on chances of adult to adult transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Alex Ario who is the acting programme manager of HIV/AIDS Control programme inUgandahas confirmed that the new option B+ drugs can be used in eliminating mother to child HIV transmission.
But the new Option B+ drugs are only given to men who are in a good health condition. The new drug suppresses HIV to undetectable levels.
