St. Mary’s Kitende girls’ football team put up a spirited performance against Kajjansi Women’s football club beating it 2:1. The two girls for Kitende were all scored by Irene Nabasumba in the first half while the one goal for Kajjansi was scored by Rose Namayanja in the second half.
The league has reached quarter final stages and the teams that have already booked space into the quarter finals are Shooters Stars Kazo, St. Mary’s Kitende, St. Mary’s Nabweru and Nsangi Wolves, St. Mary’s Kitende.
The Uganda’s women football league opened last week in Wakiso district amidst controversy with some people critical of the FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa claiming that his close female friend Mariam Kaliga was not fit to be the overall manager of the league.
The critics argued that the overall manager of the league should have been one of the ladies who have ever played football. Kaliga has never played football. The league is being sponsored by Mulindwa Over 40 women teams from across Uganda are taking part in the league. Miriam Kaliga, who is also the Makindye women councilor to Wakiso district, told our reporters that the duration for the league is one month.
Mariam Kaliga says that the winner of the league will walk way with one million shillings, a trophy and a golden medal. The second team in the league will get 500,000 shillings, a jazzy and a silver medal. This is the third time Mariam Kaliga, who is also the coordinator of Buganda women football association and one of the directors of Bunamwaya FC is heading the women national football league.
