Hundreds of students at Makerere University have been seen today moving office to office seeking for important clarification on whether the institution had truly increased tuition fees.
The KCCA councilor representing Makerere University, Bernard Luyiga says he is currently receiving numerous inquiries from Makerere University staff and students concerning many seemingly unfair and draconian policies being hurriedly considered and passed by Makerere University Council.
For the last three months, Luyiga says he has not taken part in the university council meetings because his membership was terminated by Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.
Luyiga says he is reliably informed that the tuition was increased for some courses, and unjustifiable functional fees created and intake rose to unmanageable levels. Efforts to get an official comment from the university were not successful.
Councilor Luyiga has categorically distanced himself from Makerere University council resolutions taken in the last three months that have seen the tuition fees increased.
Luyiga also threatens to explore legal means of challenging some of the policies that seem to be unfair to the students and staff.
