Human rights abuse: FDC man spends 216 hours in police custody
By Walakira on August 27, 2012
This morning the FDC president Col. Kiiza Besigye went to Old Kampala Police Station to check on one of his supporters Henry Kimera who was arrested last tuesday in St. Balikuddembe (Owino) Market where he works.
The police and some leaders of NRM in Owino market claim that Kimera and others still at large wanted to set the market on fire.
But Besigye posed a question to the police, how can Kimera who has worked in Owino for more than 10 years burn the hands that feed him. Besigye says that his man is being persecuted for having taken him to Owino market early this year. Since last Tuesday, Kimera has not been taken to court meaning that he has stayed under police custody for over 216 hours instead of the mandatory 24 hours.
Kimera says that the cells he is detained in are stinking, and he now has malaria because of the condition. Col. Besigye has sent him lawyers to work for his release.
