Man making the right choice is difficult. Take an example of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) where members in this opposition party have to choose between Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and MP Nandala Mafabi for party president.
There is this perception that with Gen. Muntu, who is president Museveni’s ex commander, handsome and reserved and has real swag! Some people in FDC liken Muntu to US president, Barrack Obama. Ok, but expect for the time when Muntu would one day be reduced to tears in-front of crowds. Recently Muntu exhibited his emotional and cried in public.
Muntu’s supporters market that his leadership would be a continued post Col. Kiiza Besigye love hate romance against Museveni’s NRM government.
Muntu’s critics told us that if he one day becomes Uganda president corruption would have new faces because he has no concrete points under his belt to show that he is very active in eradicating the vice.
Then there is Mafabi, the incorruptible, hard working, result oriented, clean MP. Mafabi has never held gun in his life to fight for power, also never has he enriched himself with public funds.
It is perceived that Mafabi if he wins FDC party presidency, he would create a bend in the curve, a new beginning of real opposition, those who would role with him would have to be clean and think his way, or get thrown off his bus.
But yet again, with president Museveni’s grip on the army and his tricks to stay in power, the possibility of coup by his well positioned generals in the first five years of Mafabi’s leadership that is if for some miracle he becomes president are extremely high. FDC members’ choice to choose between Muntu and Mafabi is hard indeed but Ugandans are watching.
