It was all joy and excitement as members of Sironko District Action on Physical Disability (SIDAPD) received various items to help them boost their businesses and increase on their incomes.
The items provided included goats, chicken, farm inputs, and cobbler inputs and saloon equipment and materials.
The items were purchased using a 3.5 million shillings special grant for persons with disabilities that they received from the district. The grant from the Uganda central government is available in all districts and is aimed at empowering disabled people to earn money through facilitating them to start income generating activities or to boost their businesses.
SIDAPD chairman Moses Wagidoso handed over goats to James Masaba and
Joseph Wambuzi. Other beneficiaries received farm inputs including seeds and fertilizers. Ms Justine Muyeke received two goats while Moses Kawuka received equipment and materials for his salon.
As part of the government efforts to improve the living conditions of persons with physical disability, it advocates for employment of members, vocational and entrepreneurial skills development for those with little or no education.
Thirteen people were trained in soap making while 17 benefitted from the beads training.
