Poor people in Kampala plan massive strike

Striking is not good but the people in Kampala use it as a tool to force their oppressors to make changes in administration. Sources in police tell us that the police are working hard to kill the strike of the poor passengers in the bud.

According to police sources, the strike is a result of Thursday’s Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) act of impounding over 100 buses belonging to Pioneer Easy Bus Company for failure to clear a sh8b tax debt. The passengers who talked to our reporters in Kampala blamed URA for impounding the busses yet they have been helping poor people.

The Pioneer bus company started its operations on March 12, taking advantage of a taxi operators strike over payment of 120, 000 shillings per month.

The manager in charge of debt collection in URA, Abdul Salaam says that they impounded the busses because Pioneer Bus Company had refused to pay taxes despite persistent reminders.
