On Tuesday 5th March 2013 John Bosco Ariong’s Trial will be on at Buganda Rd Court at 9:00am. The defendants in this case are Dr. Kizza Besigye-Kifefe [former president of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)], Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago, FDC woman leader, Ingrid Turinawe, the Lord Mayor of Kawempe division, Hajji Mubarak Munyagwa, the woman MP of Kampala, Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala and Hanold Kaija, who is Col. Besigye’s body guard and secretary.
Ariong was killed last year on Ben Kiwanuka Street in Kampala. Dr. Besigye was participating in a city road inspection tour led by Kampala Lukwago.
The tour turned chaotic as police attempted to prevent Lukwago’s entourage from walking on foot in accessing Kampala central division.
Police fired tear gas, beat up some innocent civilians, and some groups of Ugandans retaliated the police brutality on them with stone throwing in which an Assistant Inspector of Police John Bosco Ariong was injured and died.
Ariong, 48, who left behind a wife and eight children, served the Force for 26 years. Police spokesperson Nabakooba Judith says this “murdered police officer” had been deployed as part of an operation to ensure the maintenance of public order during an opposition protest. Besigye says that Ariong died when while police was stopping them from walking on foot to Kampala. Again they will walk on foot to attend the trial at Buganda road court.
