Attack of Mbuya barracks: one day could be another terehe sita cerebration

On Monday March 4th a group of suspected opposition elements attempted to force entry into the nuclear of Mbuya army barracks. The attackers, whom eyewitnesses tell us looked so determined to force entry at Mbuya barracks, fired several bullets inside the barracks. The army and defence spokesperson, Col. Felix Kulayigye confirmed the incident after journalists sought a comment from him over the attack of the very popular barracks in Kampala.

However, there is suspicion in Kampala that the day the armed men attacked Mbuya barracks one day could be another tarehe sita day commemoration. Kulayigye says Security agencies have launched investigations into the attack on Mbuya army Barracks to establish the real motive of the attackers.

Tarehe Sita celebrations are marked on the day on which NRA guerilla war started in 1981. The NRA guerilla war eventually brought President Museveni to power. Now who knows whether the attack of Mbuya barracks launched another start of liberation war? No body knows the intentions of the attackers. We are still wondering whether the attack was just a simple attempted robbery or it was intentioned to steal guns and those guns be used to start off another liberation struggle.

The opposition has been boycotting the terehe sita events on reasons that the army is unleashing lethal force and brutalises peaceful demonstrators; detains, torture and or kill opposition activists which clearly indicates that the UPDF has digressed from its constitutional obligation of being national in character and non-partisan, and instead indulges in political tangos to entrench President Museveni’s rule. If the reverse is to be true, that time around it would be president Museveni’s party NRM to boycott army cerebrations.
