Makerere University has climbed to 9th position in the African University rankings.
According to the Scimago Institutions Ranking World report, the university has also climbed to 1552 from 1563 in 2011.
The University was rated 12th in the 2011 report released by the same organization.
Reacting to the report, Director Quality assurance at the university, Dr Vincent Ssembatya said that the improvement implies a greater worldwide audience to be attracted into the university and the country at large.
Sembatya says effort is to further be directed towards research for better results.
The same report puts the University of Cape Town in top position in Africa.
Makerere, which is a public university is still the top ranked academic institution in Uganda.
