The massacre of over 65 people in a Nairobi shopping mall last month was done in revenge for ‘Kenya’s’ killings of popular Muslim leaders in Mombasa. Senior sources in Kenya’s security told one of our staff in Nairobi that there was no way the Al Shabaab terrorists could not revenge on Kenya after the assassination of Sheikh Ibrahim Omar a few months back.
The security source told us that the killing of Sheikh Omar raised tensions of the Al Shabaab fighters who were already not happy with Kenya’s deployment of foreign troops in Somalia.
After the death of Sheikh Omar, many Muslim groups torched structures of Christians and fought with the Kenyan police. The same security source told us that even Uganda could soon be a target of Al Shabaab because many Muslim clerics have been assassinated in Uganda’s capital Kampala in recent time. However, the Inspector General of Uganda Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura says Uganda has beefed up enough security. Al Shabaab on 11th July 2010 bombed Uganda and killed over 70 people.
